SMART START for WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS

Mission Statement: The Greater Houston Women's Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit business organization of highly influential and diverse women and men dedicated to the advancement and empowerment of women through avenues of leadership, education, advocacy, and mentoring.

The GHWCC, through its Smart Start Program for Women Entrepreneurs, provides training and support to new and existing women business owners to strengthen their business and marketing skills. Workshops are held bi-monthly, at a nominal fee, in the Chamber's Community Room, 3015 Richmond Avenue, Suite 100. One on one workshops are scheduled on an as needed basis. There is free parking and easy access for people with disabilities. The GHWCC Smart Start Program will partner with financial institutions, investors and the community to provide opportunities to women entrepreneurs for business loans when conventional financing is not available for them. Micro-lending is an increasingly important strategy for helping low-and moderate-income families become financially independent. Accion-Texas will service the loans and conduct the loan interviews and processing for loans under $50,000. For loans over $50,000.00, the Chamber's loan committee will approve the loans.

The Chamber will host a Women's Business Center to provide technical assistance and counseling to women business enterprises at all stages of development from start-ups to successful women business owners to assist them start, grow and expand their small businesses. Training workshops will be held bi-monthly, and at a nominal fee to entrepreneurs. The Center will be located at 3015 Richmond, Ste 200. There is free parking and easy access for people with disabilities.

The Chamber will market the program to reach women entrepreneurs through networking events, email marketing, other non-profits and community organizations, newspapers, magazines, workshops and social media. The Chamber is a 501 (c) 6 non-profit business organization. The Smart Start loan policy, workshop schedule and budget are attached.
